For sale here is a very scarce first model H.L. Leonard Bimetal fly reel made by Philbrook & Paine in the last quarter of the 19th century. Clearly marked "H.L. Leonard - Pat. June 12, 1877". Constructed with a bronze frame, german silver sideplates, foot, handle arm, and spool. The pillar to pillar diameter is ~2.6" (without pillars it is ~2.2"). The spool width is ~ 1". Hard rubber handle grasp. Excellent overall and fully original condition. The riveted click is strong, very smooth and loud. The spool turns freely. The foot is full length, absolutely straight, and unmolested. All in all, a very scarce example of the classic Philbrook & Paine Leonard bimetal reel
